Essential items when going out in public with your dog
Since quarantine has hit I have found myself exploring more with Charlie and going for longer walks. I have also found myself going through my mental checklist of what Charlie needs before we hit the road. So I have decided to share with you guys our essential items of what we bring when we go out with Charlie.
1. Leash
A leash of course is self explanatory but The Foggy Dog, Lulu and Lea, and The Black Dog are some of my favorite leashes. They have so many patterns and colors to go with whatever mood or season you are feeling. The Foggy Dog leash is more of a climbing rope feel. The Lulu and Lea leash is leather with a little braided detail I love. Black Dog leash is more flat but really durable.
I refuse to walk any distance without the Gentle Leader on Charlie by Pet Safe. Without it Charlie chokes himself out on the collar and has chewed through 3 front clip harnesses. He isn’t the biggest fan of it, but he walks like an angel on it vs. when we don’t use it. It isn’ t a muzzle like some people think. He has full range of motion of his mouth. He can pick up sticks through out the duration of our entire walk do not worry 😂.
3. Poop bag holders/treat holders
I have struggled finding aesthetically pleasing poop bag holders and treat holders. The Foggy Dog is the best option I have found for both. They clip right on to the leash and they have the cutest patterns available. While they are marketed as poop bag dispensers, the hole for the dispenser part is small enough that treats do not fall out of it. I love how it clips right on to the leash making it easily accessible so that I am not fishing around my bag for treats. I do recommend however getting a darker color because the lighter options get filthy when attached to the leash. It is cloth so it is easily washable though. You can use CHARLIE10 for 10% off your order.
4. Water Bottle
It is always important to bring water with you when you go on excursions with your dog. This is the water bottle we use and we love it. It has a filter and an easy one press button to dispense the water. It also locks so it won’t spill everywhere. We got it on Amazon and was $14.99
5. Hand Sanitizer
With all the health concerns going on in the world right now, hand hygiene is so important. Also, dogs can get dirty, so you should probably just sanitize your hands anyways 😂. I love the Bath & Body Works pocket hand sanitizers because they are easy to throw in your purse or if you buy the holders you can hook them right on the leash (which is what we do). Word of advice though, avoid the ones with glitter in them. We all know how relentless glitter is.
6. Backpack
I love having a backpack when we go for walks or anywhere with Charlie because I need to be hands free and it holds everything I need! My favorite ones are from Longchamp. They are small enough where you do not feel like a school aged kid, but large enough where you can fit water bottles, treats, etc. They also are stylish and come in a variety of colors. I honestly have found some at TJMaxx sometimes!
7. High quality treats
If you plan on going out to eat or doing something where you need to keep your dog well behaved I suggest high quality treats that last long. There are a variety of chews such as No Hide Chews or bully sticks. Charlie loves bully sticks so that’s what we usually bring out with us. I love the ones from Bully Bundles. They are low odor and Charlie goes crazy for them. We get the 12″ ones because he chews through them quick. You can use DOODITSCHARLIE for 10% off.
8. A toy for Charlie to hold
As most of you know, Charlie is an energetic greeter. He ALWAYS needs to hold something in his mouth when he gets excited and greets people. Because of this I always have to pack at least one toy I know cannot get that dirty and wet when we go out. I normally reach for his rubber balls or any toy made of rubber, because I can easily wipe them off when he drops them in a pile of dirt 😂
Love, Jess and Charlie 🍷🐾
